Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party access places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the family.
This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
